What course can I study?

There are a range of programmes available through Lifelong Learning. Some of these are short courses (which have no credit) and others have credit attached to them which can lead to a qualification.

How do I apply?

Each type of programme has a different application process, so directions are available at the bottom of each programme listing. Detailed instructions for applying for credit bearing courses are available from here.

To apply for any other (non-credit bearing) short courses, read the instructions in each individual programme listing. If you have further queries or would like further information you can ring +44 (0)28 9036 6680.

How do I enrol?

Once your application has been accepted, you will receive details on how to enrol on your course. This will usually involve using our online enrolment system, so there should be no need for you to visit the university.

How much does it cost?

Each programme has a specific cost, and the level of fees vary. Specific details are available from individual programme pages.

How can I pay?

Short courses can be paid by cheque, or credit card (Visa or Mastercard). Alternatively, we can invoice your organisation. There is a different payment process for accredited courses - you pay for these when you are completing the online enrolment process.

Can I talk to someone about the courses on offer?

What are your opening hours?

Lifelong Learning is based in room 2F03 in the University of Ulster at Jordanstown. Our hours of business, for administrative purposes, are Monday - Thursday 9am-5pm and Friday 9am - 4pm. What qualifications do I need?

Most Lifelong Learning courses require no prior qualifications. However some programmes may have entry requirements but this will be outlined in the individual programme listings where appropriate.

Do I have to take tests or exams?

For most courses there are no exams or tests involved. However, if the course is accredited, there will usually some kind of an assessment involved, such as a piece of coursework to hand in or an online assessment.

What is the difference between credit bearing courses and non-credit bearing?

Credit bearing courses can lead to a formal certificate and will have some type of formal assessment attached to them, whereas short courses with no credit usually don't involve assessment.

Do you offer bespoke professional education for businesses/organisations?

Courses can be offered that are tailored to your requirements, specific to your business or organisation. If you would like more information about this please email lifelonglearning@ulster.ac.uk

What is the Certificate of Personal and Professional Development (CPPD)?

The Certificate of Personal and Professional Development (CPPD) is a framework within the University with a range of short courses of study (modules up to 20 credits) which can be undertaken at any stage in life, regardless of prior qualifications. You can study small courses which can be built up to achieve an award (60 credits in total) from the University of Ulster.

What are the benefits of doing a short course?

Short courses or accredited modules allow you to update your skills, develop new skills and explore and develop interests in a wide range of topics. These courses can be taken as personal or professional development and may enhance your employability.
