Encouraging, promoting and developing technologies to enhance and support learning and teaching
Technology Facilitated Learning is a central unit located within the Access and Distributed Learning portfolio, with a university wide remit to encourage, promote and develop technologies to enhance and support learning and teaching. In addition to developing and supporting the University's Virtual Learning Environment, the Technology Facilitated Learning Unit will identify, research and encourage the adoption and innovative use of emergent technologies to support and enhance teaching and learning across the University.
The objectives of the Technology Facilitated Learning Unit will be to:
- Assist the University to translate strategic teaching and learning priorities into meaningful changes in systems, services and practices through the use of information, communication and hardware technologies.
- Provide the University with a suite of tools and technologies (including the institutional VLE) to best support the teaching and learning activities of the University;
- Provide the University with objective specialist information and guidance to inform and assist the development of Institutional policies, strategies and decision making processes;
- Provide specialist briefing and review documents to ensure key University processes and services are fit for purpose and best informed of emerging technologies and practices, as appropriate;
- Carry out a national and international observatory function and provide periodic proposal summaries of potential TFL initiatives which can be prioritised against institutional teaching, learning and related agendas;
- Develop, implement, evaluate and support prioritised TFL related tools, services and resources to ensure best educational impact for all stakeholders;
- Liaise with relevant internal departments and external agencies to ensure that TFL is a sustainable capacity enabler for the Institution;
- Maintain the University's position as a leader in student focussed e-learning services;
- Encourage and promote technology facilitated learning within the University of Ulster and externally.
